Georgian era gold cannetille shell cameo brooch

A large Georgian era cameo brooch depicting the Greek deity Hermes, the messenger of gods, as identifiable by the wings on his hat. The coiled cannetille setting is tested to be at least 9ct gold, featuring the excellent craftsmanship of that era. It can also be worn as a pendant when styled with the right chain. The original catch on the back has been replaced by a more modern roller catch, but the repair is well done and the cameo is in excellent condition for its age.

Measures 10.14 grams in weight, about 1 5/8 inches in height and 1 1/2 inches in width. Chain for display only, sold separately.
